Answers to common plumbing and heating questions

What are your opening hours?

Alan Kemish Plumbing, Heating & Fires works Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm and Saturday 9am to 3pm, and is closed on Sunday. You can message us outside these hours and we will reply as soon as possible.

Which areas do you cover?

We are based in Emsworth, Hampshire, and cover Emsworth, Havant, Hayling Island, Westbourne, Southbourne, Rowlands Castle, Bosham, Chichester and Waterlooville. For larger projects we also travel further, so please contact us to discuss your project.

What plumbing and heating services do you offer?

We install and service boilers, carry out central heating and hot water work, fit and service gas fires and stoves, and handle domestic plumbing such as leaks, showers, cold water tanks and water softeners. See our plumbing and heating services page for details.

How do I get a quote?

Call us on 01243 371665, use the quote form on any page, or email alan@alankemish.co.uk. Tell us what you need and where you are. Quotes are free and there is no obligation.

What is the best way to contact you?

Phone is best if your query is urgent, because replies to messages and emails can take longer. Our main number is 01243 371665 and our mobile is 07973 283 356.

Can you provide references?

Yes. You can read reviews on our customer reviews page, and we can provide more references on request. We can also show you photos of recently completed projects.

How long will my project take?

It depends on the job. Small jobs usually take a few hours, a boiler swap usually takes one to two days, and larger projects can take several days. Once we have looked at your job we give you a proposed start date and an estimate of how long it will take.

Do I need a Gas Safe registered engineer?

Yes. By law, anyone who works on a gas boiler, gas fire, gas cooker or gas pipework in your home must be on the Gas Safe Register. You can check an engineer on the Gas Safe Register website or ask to see their Gas Safe ID card, which lists the types of gas work they are qualified to do.

What should I do if I smell gas?

Open doors and windows, do not use electrical switches or naked flames, turn off the gas at the meter if it is safe to do so, and leave the property. Then call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999.
